I think that a majority of people that follow this affilation program think they will receive a t-shirt thanks to the points they earned. This could be a great way to make an importante emulation and motivations to promote firefox...
Amazing marketing copy
Amazing marketing copy on the affiliate page. You have to read it a few times before you realize you don't get anything for being an affiliate - but they sure make it sound exciting!
At the very least they could drop the nofollow on your profile link. Wouldn't even cost them anything, and we don't have to worry about spammers because the reporting mechanism is already in place for that.
The only reason I am using it is to continue to provide readers valid links since Google killed the actual paying downloads.

Points Value
Well I guess that you could say that they are just points but they do have value. I like them for the fact that points are a way to track how many Firefox referrals that you have. I remember having zero points and like nearly everyone else, my first point came from me testing out the first Firefox promo that I had on my site.
It's an awesome feeling when I look at my points now and see that I have potentially gotten 26,151 people to download Firefox. There's also a feeling of pride and accomplishment when you see yourself listed in the top 250 which by the way has a Google page rank of 7 so having a link to your web site on the top 250 doesn't hurt..
Honestly though, actively promoting Firefox is a great way to give back for what we all get for free.

The external links in
The external links in SpreadFirefox.com has rel="nofollow" attribute. So actually it won't increase the Page Rank of your websites.

EXACTLY !!! i also noticed this long time before and asked why links has nofollow tag !! they replied and they said no it is not true!!
Anyway someone please tell me what is the point of affiliate of firefox ? ok we love it and we would like to share but what Spread Firefox give us instead of these things ??
AT LEAST they can remove that tag from the External links in top 250 page !!

Spread Firefox members all have a unique affiliate id. You're affiliate id number is 229283. You can view how many referrals (or points) that you have on your account page (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/user/229283) under Affiliate statistics (glencumbie has earned 1 points) or on the Spread Firefox front page in the right hand column under the Hit Parade.

Affiliate Credit?
Hi everyone,
I was just curious about the affiliate tracking process. How does Mozilla know who referred new customers? You know how normally there is an affiliate id built in the banner or whatever on other programs. It's probably in the mountain of information provided but I can't seem to locate it. I am sure it's right in front of me. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am just wanting to advertise on my new blog but wanted to get points or some kind of credit ... know what I mean? :) Thanks for your help in advance. gc

Right now, each click from an affiliate banner that leads to firefox.com counts as 1 point. We're working on a new system where we'd actually count downloads of Firefox instead of just clicks. If you have ideas on the type of rewards that you could get from affiliate points, let us know! We are currently looking at some different possibilities.
