What do you think?
Thank you to all of you that have already subscribed!
We just want you to know that we're currently working on getting all the details together for the challenge and that we're really excited to get this project off the ground. We're thinking of launching sometime in late September or October, but in the meantime, we'd like to get some feedback and suggestions from you:
(Feel free to comment about the following questions or to share any other thoughts you may have.)
1. What IS Mozilla's largest marketing challenge?
2. What's the best way to spread the word to high school/college students or anyone who may be interested in the challenge?
3. How did you hear about the challenge?
Thanks for reading and we're excited to hear what you have to say!
basic customer management issue
You probably heard its much cheaper to try to keep your existing customers then neglecting current and chasing new ones.
I believe i am amongst too many of FF2 heavy users who absolutely hate the new FF3 AwesomeBar - I think its a school case example of a flawed UI implementation. Its UI is too busy, distracting, annoying and attention time wasting !
The "oldbar" add-on can't do a good enough job to get rid of this awesome disaster.
Mozilla team have decided to break something that was working just perfectly fine, without giving the option to get rid of this new BUG, or "feature" if you insist. They should have been much more responsive to the too many end users negative feedback. How hard it should be to give an option of returning something to behave like in the previous version ? Why is this fix not available yet ?
We are not asking for something new or revolutionary - How hard this should be ?
I have lost the trust in Mozilla not braking the most basic and important necessities in their product.
I have learned Mozilla is DEAF to end user feedback !
Should i wait to see what other stupid exercises will they come up with in next version, to force on me and maybe hope sometime one day an add-on will become availabe to return the things back before they got broken ?
FF3 speed improvements - fantastic, more secure - i hope, the rest - give me an option to get rid off !
First lets make FF2 users to upgrade to FF3, then move on to new users.
Some more thoughts
Here are some thoughts on your specific 3 questions.
1. Convincing people that IE is not worth it just because it's pre-installed, and, now that Mozilla's in pretty good shape market-wise, convincing people of the higher level causes - benefits of open-source and open web.
2. It would probably be best to appeal to student organizations. In college, just getting to the ACM could go directly to multiple organizations on campus. Otherwise reaching engineering departments in any school should forward information to the right student representatives. I'm guessing you have experience in targetting campus organizations already. I'd also recommend hitting the business schools, which should also have a strong system for student organization contact and contest spread. Business schools always have marketing competitions and would be more than happy to advertise something like this.
For high school contacts may be a bit trickier, but I think at this point any good high school organization will have a website. Otherwise hitting the math department in a school can get teachers to advertise contests to students.
3. I heard about it on SFX!
Wake Up People

Brain Storming
Just my 2 cents! I heard about Mozilla many years ago, but like many others I suspect you really do not see the benifits and compare it unless you use it. As long as a product is simple and gets the job done Mozilla will grow.. look at google. How do we help it grow faster, Maybe acknowledge those who support it. Start with supporting those who help make it a better product. ie like developers and others Promote it in technology shows and school fairs..yes schools still have fair days..lol HAMMERTIME: Imagine a browser that incorporated a blog space as well. So when u have brain farts you can post it at that moment, maybe add a IM plugin... Make the damn thing so kids and adults can keep in touch while online. Sorry back to the points at hand. Make it fun! if its fun to promote more will support promoting Mozilla products. Appeal to all Ages. Hope this starts the farting! brain farting that is, "Win-Win"
