Low-Key Efforts
I made a project for myself. Took the current download of FFX, wrote a document on why people should use it, some other stuff, and burned it onto CDs. Whenever I sell something on eBay, or bring it up in conversation, I'm ready to pass along a free bonus. I won't get "points" for it, but then, those points don't count for anything, anyway. Anyone else have creative ideas for offering FFX?
I look forward to the walk

Low key efforts
Spoken Word Blog
I came here looking for a banner to the fire fox download site For my page (Because im anti IE "non standard compliance ,etc, etc"), all i found was so called "ego points" banners.
I guess ill have to make the link myself.
However i would like to suggest that if you really want to raise supporters to your site create a affiliates page for webmasters that do links like these to your download site.(lets face it support for your site is all in how many links you have visible on popular sites or any site in general) and if there gonna link to you, you should link to them. then use that point system to raise the most clicked sites up in your affiliates section.
Thats my idea anyways.
Word I'm out
I have read the period
I have read the period "organic software" on place, I really intriuged, and I really love the idea to take national understood period and use this to describe software is received I thinking and I feel this if I could connect certain marketing the period like that this, this will far easier be for people to understand waht this means without too technical more.

Silly?
Something else I don't get is the 'organic software' bit. Sounds like a nonsense term. Or is it geeks on a free range farm eating natural foods?
PS--
Flyers, brochures, business cards, postcards — does anyone know if Scribus does these things? I'm happy with Print Shop, but I'd like to spread Open Source materials.
Postcards
Elsewhere, I wrote that I took a business card template and printed up the FFX logo, spreadfirefox.com, etc. on magnet sheet stock. Then I trimmed them up into mini magnets to pass around. (They can be any size, of course.) The great thing about all this is that you can do something different every time.
Another thought is to use your desktop publishing software to make FFX postcards. Not necessarily for mailing, but for taking up on appropriate bulletin boards or to put on tables, countertops, etc. in places like student lounges, cyber cafés and so on. (I'd skip the laundromat, people aren't really thinking about the Internet in there.)
Another little trick
My latest Weblog posting was in relation to discussions around me about UFOs. So, I jumped on that. And embedded the link to the Firefox flick, "Xraalthraal and John". (I don't embed entire videos. Contrary to the way people act, most of the world does NOT have high-speed access.)
So, not only is this another "low-key effort" to promote Firefox, it shows that the makers of the Firefox Flicks Website have given us good tools to use their product.
Other Low-key-efforts
Another "Low key effort" that can have an impact is the simple act of writing instructions for users of web apps or web pages and show Firefox in the pictures.
You would be surprised how many instruction documents I see that show pictures of IE displaying web pages (If not also the entire Windows desktop as well!)
If people simply see Firefox then if they eventually have to use it or decide to use it, then it may not seem as foreign to them.
BTW, if you are displaying the personal tool bar make sure you have appropriate links in there. For example Mozilla.org and SpreadFirefox.com :)

Not only that
Not only that, also when writing and talking, use sentences that mention Firefox, as in
"Open a web browser like Firefox and then do this and that"
"Now use Firefox to view your new PHP page."
"Start Firefox, type in the bank's website www....."
"Hover over the image with your mouse and Firefox will show you...."
Etc...

well, i am new to spread
well, i am new to spread firefox, but certainly not new to spreading firefox. for me, the hardest part of spreading the word is explaining in a really non-technical way. its one thing to tell someone that its better, faster, more-secure, etc... however, they dont necessarily believe what im saying is accurate. so, how do you say well its better, and you should just do it while giving good examples and being as non-tech-elitist as possible?
when i read the "organic software" term on the site, i was really intriuged, and i really like the idea of taking a nationally understood term and using it to describe software. it got me thinking and i feel that if i could attach some marketing term like that to it, it would be much easier for people to understand waht it means without being too technical.

Firefor Messaging Document
Good discussion here. Not sure if everyone has seen the messaging document (also posted on the new spreadfirefox), but it's a pretty good place to start with some language that gives folks some easy-to-digest language for why they should be using Firefox:

Bonus
Giving Firefox as a bonus to customers is a neat idea indeed. BTW I think you made some good points in your article (see your other post).

Thanks
I'm glad you like the idea. (Side note: Otto was the name of my Junior High School.) Also glad you liked the points I raised in my Weblog about evangelism. Uh, that was what you meant, wasn't it?
Yes that's what I meant. I
Yes that's what I meant. I agree with your points about not vandalizing and not being pushy when promoting Firefox. These things could backfire.
