How can the current Affiliates Program be improved?

All thoughts and ideas welcome. Some things to consider include:

* How can we improve upon the existing program?
* How can we encourage more people to participate?
* What types of incentives encourage participation?
* What kind of creative banners and buttons work best for the program and how should they be organized?
* What other tools should we provide through the program that will make it easier to use, more accessible, and more engaging to participants?
* What special creative can we make available for Firefox 3?

use the points suggestions

Whatever proposal is finally settled on for using our points, it needs to be a fare trade. The existing google adsense affiliate program for Firefox and google toolbar seems to average out at 75c per conversion. In my opinion that's pretty good for a free download. If cash rewards are out of the question, then how about some more sophisticated merchandise such as watches, desk sets and overseas holidays.

I would like to be able to

I would like to be able to convert affiliate points into money for charities that help people who are vulnerable.

This

Well i think the point system is a great idea. But like people have said it would be much more successful if they offered some sort of reward or achievement that can be reached. Even if the prizes were on the cheaper side they would help represent that this person who had obtained them had helped the cause. The buttons that are links to the site I also think is a very good idea. May i suggest something be made like a Myspace background? or a facebook application that suggest using Firefox. I personally have joined a couple groups in the facebook community but I have to say it is not the most represented group. Possibly a embedable search bar that somehow is like firefox skin of google to be placed around the web by members of this group. That could also help bring in funding to this group to afford what ever it is this website wishes to purchase. I found this website using the firefox application stumble upon application which i must say is a good idea. I think another good idea is most people use internet explorer over any mozilla program so if we could find some of the higher searched terms for google (not possitive but pretty sure the most used search engine currently) and make a chart like a vendiagram of internet explorer and firefox making firefox obviously blow it out of the water then tag the picture or page with those high searched terms it would easily help people notice mozilla products. I would much appreciate logos to. I have a single logo for firefox and would love to be able to change it to something more appealing to the eye then the basic icon i have had forever. and thats all i got time to write at the moment and im not sure if this is even on topic anymore haha. alright thanks for reading all of this guys.

How I want my FF3.

Firefox means ... innovation ... how you said in your messaging "Organic", something that I dont know at all (source code, how its work) but I can learm It.

Well lets get to my point my point for my next installation of Firefox are the next:

1) It has to have at least 3 levels of "visual requirements", because the engine of the browser wont change in the levels; it was matter for advanced users (im not one, but in just saying), I mean that the firefox ask me if i want it:

(Level 3 - Visual):

full skin, style, buttons, visual customization you know =) and why not? a FireFox Music Player Integrated(I'll get in the idea deep later- sorry 4my english =P).

(Level 2 - Middle Visual):

you know ... less graphics and stuffs from above.

(Level 1 - Faster Proccess):

MY LEVEL ... 'cuz my computer is slow ... i want my firefox faster than any other program ... I've made a comparison and in my PC won OPERA ... but I still using firefox maybe this is a missunderstood from my knowledge but ... I want a faster Firefox for my Pentium.

------------------------------------

My other idea ... is about this questions ..
- ¿Why buttons are at the top?.

What I want: I want my buttons on the right side of my window...(File, Edit, View, Bookmarks)

- ¿Why tabs are at the top too?.

What I want: I want my tabs on the left in the bottom.

- ¿Why the address bar is at the top too?.

What I want: I want my address bar at the center bottom of my window... and below it the Go, back, forward, stop and home button.

On right bottom corner a firefox-logo-button that when i click it appear a list with options of the mozzilla and firefox sites ... or ¿Why not ? my favorites sites =).

Yes ... yes ... you are asking about the top ... well on the top will be the page that Im seeing. The title (Spread Firefox | The Home of Firefox Community Marketing - Mozilla Firefox). and the music player if you consider my idea.

Yeah sorry maybe Im desiring too much ... but you asked, didnt you?...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now Im going to abord another topic...

How can we encourage more people to participate?

My answer: It's really easy ... when I tell people "hey man use Fiferox, it is better than ******* ********"... they say "yeah ... "¿How do you know that? .. ¡shut up!".

Well you can solve it ... First "creating a FFSpreader logo" (great idea i know =) that supports that Im a Firefox Spreader and I can say everything about the Firefox features because Im a member of the spreaders data base (I know the database it's something more to spend I know... I will pay it i'd had the money but Im with luck friends, I use a free and the best browser, that's why Im doing this!!!!...).

Obviously for all the people that wanna be an official spreader have to pass an exam that you will do, if you want ... or you just can provide a PDF with all the Firefox features and how to cuztomizate it and the person that wanna become an official spreader have it and study it and spread the word.... I would do it.

What types of incentives encourage participation?

My answer: easy too ... guides, tutos and a lot of information about what are you doing, for example i knew about the TSHIRT contest because my first page its your google format ... its my homemark =). Put more info in these bookmark ... photo about winners, spreaders and comments ... I mean show the persone that million of people are working in the browser .... Did you got it?.

What kind of creative banners and buttons work best for the program and how should they be organized?

My asnwer: an easy question too ... logos for instant meesaging programs ... I have the firefox logo on my messenger live's display ... and 2 people asked me about what about the logo is (sorry for the english) ... and one download the browser believe me or not ... the girl did it. Try to create a new browser and new Fox ... break the habit of the browser ... it's not easy I know ..

What special creative can we make available for Firefox 3?

My asnwer: The status bar ... have to say more about the page that im seeing, the format (PHP, ASP etc ...) thats what I would like...

Well that were my ideas and if nobody read them and one of the mozzilla or firefox member at least say "Shut up kid" I will get angry and I will switch to OPERA jajajajaja. Im joking ... but comment -.- ...

Be good ... continue with Firefox ... thanks for the browser.

Thanks for everything ... =).

missong link

The menu system should contain an easily accessible way to allow and disallow installation of software.
I created a button for this in prefbar, but don't understand why it's not part of the original menu.

tell us

How do we get the "points" in the first place? Are they only from clicking the buttons? Are they assigned from merit?

The Points

You need to have some way for us to use our points, like when we get so-many points we get a T-shirt or somthing....

good redemption examples

Some good items for this purpose would be:
- t-shirts
- school supplies (e.g. a box of 100 wooden Firefox pencils)
- a DVD with many of the same fonts Mozilla uses
- free shipping in the Mozilla Store
- USB flash drives
- email gift certificates for other online stores (Amazon, newegg.com, Starbucks, among others)
Feel free to add any other items that might fit this category.

Improvements

First it would be nice if the old Thunderbird referrals and Firefox flicks referrals worked again, I had to replace both these referral links on my site, but I am sure there are thousands of links out there that are now not working properly anymore.

Actually I just found out that the referral URLs changed completely with the new SFx site and there is a NEW thunderbird referral code that does work. Some info about those changes would be nice.

What's the new referral URL for getting people to join SFx? Does it still give us 10 points?
And what about the Firefox Flicks referral code (the old one no longer leads to the flicks page) is there still one?

Secondly the choice of buttons/banners on the official page, is well too small, for example I was looking for a new 110x32 button, but there is none.

So much for the current problems, as for the future I haven't thought about it too much, but two ideas come to mind.

There could be something like giving out prizes (like T-shirts) every once in a while (probably better if it was kind of random - maybe a minimum number of points, so that everyone gets a chance to win).

And then there is localization, it was discussed on Air Mozilla many months ago but nothing has happened with that idea. There are two approaches I can think of. One let people choose from buttons in many languages to put on their site (far the easiest solution, this brings us back to a point I mentioned above, there need to be more buttons to choose from, including in languages other than English). The second is to have dynamic buttons that adapt to a person's locale settings and/or country/region where he or she is located.

Otto speaks for me also on

Otto speaks for me also on many of his points. Especially with Thunderbird. I'll gladly still freely promote Thunderbird with or without points given I just don't want the Thunderbird URL pointing to mozilla.com when my visitors are expecting to go to a Thunderbird download page.

The aged old question, "What do we get for points". People love Firefox and freely promote it obviously, but if you were to offer a Firefox Affiliate Prize Pack, then that would be cool. Monthly drawing of most active affiliates or something similar.

I'd like to see stats on which promos are the most effective. Some sites use text links and some banners and they can have varying amounts of referrals, which is best?

Definitly a greater number of promos should be made available in different sizes but I think that they should be posted in their own local groups to keep things organized. A standard template could be made so that groups can create promos in their own languages but yet still maintain consistency of the Firefox promotional graphic itself.

How can we encourage more people to participate? Simple, encourage people to join Spread Firefox. I always promote SFx and there is no reason why Mozilla wouldn't want to. The more members, the more to spread the word.

Example SFx Promo
